Born in the USSR, Perelman and his mother left Kiev when he was 15. Emigrating first to Austria and Italy, they finally settled in Canada. Vadim earned a degree in physics from the University of Alberta before moving to Toronto to attend the prestigious Ryerson Film School. "My senses were shocked when I left the USSR," says Perelman. "In Russia, everything was black, grey and white. I was stunned by the vivid colour here." That visual awakening and new freedom combined with the innate sensibilities and interests in science and art made the pursuit of original filmmaking a natural progression. He has built a reel based on his distinctive directorial look- combining camera, editing and sound in a powerful style. Vadim has directed two features, the Oscar nominated 'The House of Sand and Fog' staring Sir Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly and 'The Life Before Her Eyes' starting Uma Thurman and Evan Rachel Wood.
